The Louie Bing Athletic Scholarship Fund, Inc. (LBASF)
A non-profit organization, was birthed in 1988 from an event held to honor Mr. Louie Bing, Jr., a former teacher and track coach at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. The idea to honor Mr. Bing was the brainchild of his former student, Clifford James. Clifford credits Coach Bing for being a father figure, mentor and friend who inspired him to become successful in life.
Louie Bing formed a committee, deciding that this type of event should continue. Shortly afterwards, The Louie Bing Athletic Scholarship Fund, Inc. was established to honor other deserving individuals in the community.
Today, the Organization raises funds to promote and finance athletic and academic events as well as recognize school and community leaders who provide positive youth mentorship. Each year, at the Annual Awards Banquet, the LBASF, Inc. honors these deserving individuals in the areas of Education, Athletics and Community Service.
In support of the youth of the Florida area, The Louie Bing Athletic Scholarship Fund, Inc. presents college scholarships to six deserving students each year and has awarded close to $100,000 in scholarship awards.
The Louie Bing Athletic Scholarship Fund, Inc. continues to fundraise and support safe, secure and wholesome athletic environments. Beginning in 2021, three additional scholarship opportunities will be provided for students seeking higher education.
